Letter dated 28 July 1993 from the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General
I am instructed by the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, which retains the powers and responsibilities of the Provisional Government of Palestine, to bring the following to your immediate attention.
For the fourth consecutive day, Israeli military attacks continue against Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon as part of the overall Israeli aggression against that country. Israeli forces have been launching these attacks by means of air force, navy and ground artillery. The camps that have been hit include Beddawi and Nahr el-Bared in northern Lebanon and Ein el-Hilweh, Mieh Mieh and Rashidieh in southern Lebanon. Such criminal and indiscriminate assaults have caused high numbers of casualties and displacement among the Palestinians.
As you are aware, the Israeli aggression against Lebanon has caused immeasurable suffering and damage for the Lebanese people, as well as for the Palestinian civilians in the refugee camps. Furthermore, this aggression only continues to intensify, and this will certainly have a serious impact on the situation in the region, with far-ranging consequences, and it does undermine the peace process currently under way.
We call upon the Security Council to consider the situation immediately and to take concrete measures to bring an end to that Israeli aggression.
I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the text of the present letter distributed as an official document of the General Assembly, under items 34, 35, 85 and 86 of the provisional agenda, and of the Security Council.
