REPORT OF THE UNITED NATIONS HIGH COMMISSIONER

FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND FOLLOW-UP TO THE WORLD

CONFERENCE ON HUMAN RIGHTS

Letter dated 8 April 2002 from the Permanent Representative of Ecuador

to the United Nations Office at Geneva addressed to the Chairperson of

the Commission at its fifty-eighth session

In accordance with the agreement reached by the Commission on Human Rights today, I have pleasure in forwarding the following explanation of vote by the delegation of Ecuador in relation to the adoption of the resolution entitled “Situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory” (E/CN.4/2002/L.13 of 4 April 2002).

“Ecuador voted in favour of the resolution adopted on the ‘Situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory’ for the reasons set out in its statement during the debate on 5 April 2002, and bearing in mind that the amendment proposed by the delegation of Sweden makes it possible to encompass within the scope of the resolution all the acts committed in violation of human rights which are noted and which consequently affect all the parties to the conflict. Ecuador trusts that the mission entrusted to the High Commissioner for Human Rights will be accomplished without mishap and will benefit from all the guarantees that the parties can provide.”
