ANNEX

Communique issued on 26 March 1979 by the Government of Jordan

1. In expression of the Arab rejection of the separate peace agreement, which will be signed by President Sadat, in fidelity to the noble souls of the martyrs of our nation, who fell in defence of the Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem, and as a reiteration of our pledge to our people in the occupied lands to remain steadfast in according them unflinching support to enable them to ward off the conspiracy against their existence and to struggle for their liberation from the yoke of Zionist occupation. The Government of Jordan declares that all work shall cease in all government institutions as well as in the private sector between 1100 and 1200 hours.

2. The Government of Jordan emphasizes the importance of absolute national solidarity in confronting the conspiracy against the Arab nation and the conspiracy to liquidate its first cause (the Palestine cause).  It also stresses the imperative need of the solidarity of all the Arab peoples in the face of this conspiracy and the consequences which will flow therefrom, in order to repel and abort the machinations of our enemies.

3. The Government of Jordan takes this occasion to honour the noble martyrs of Egypt, who gave their lives in the cause of the Arab nation and its honour, fully cognizant that this dark cloud over the land of Egypt will inevitably and assuredly dissipate by virtue of the consciousness of our people in Egypt, the steadfastness of our people in the occupied lands and the alertness of our citizens to all the intrigues and conspiracies which will be hatched with a view to swerving the situation in the service of the aggressors and the conspirators.

4. The Government of Jordan takes this opportunity to renew to our leader, the upholder of our legacy, our people's full-fledged support in his efforts as the standard-bearer of the struggle of the great leader al-Hussein Ibn Ali, during whose struggle the first phase of the Zionist international conspiracy unfolded, and pledges to pursue unwaveringly the strategy which he and his brethren, the patriotic leaders of the Arab nations, have charted to defeat the plans of surrender and to consolidate the Arab people's forces.

5. The Government of Jordan also expresses its hope and prayer that those who have been running after a mirage and false glitter would reawaken from their misperception and would return to the path of truth.
