Letter dated 6 November 2000 from the Permanent Representative

of Lebanon to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General

Further to my letter dated 2 November 2000 (document S/2000/1066 of 3 November 2000), and on instructions from my Government, I have the honour to inform you that on 6 November 2000 five Israeli helicopters were observed overflying the following areas: Aytit, Mazra`at al-Mushrif, Rishknaniyah, Qana, Qal`at Shaqif al-Naml (Tibnin), Jwayya, Kafr Dunin, Burj Qallawiyah and Tayyibah.

At 0026 hours, two Israeli helicopters were observed landing for a very brief period in the Qantarah area, well inside Lebanese territory.

These Israeli violations are a further violation of Security Council resolution 425 (1978) and of Lebanese sovereignty and amount to military action and a grave precedent likely to threaten security and peace in the region. Lebanon therefore calls upon the Secretary-General to take the necessary measures to bring an end to these ongoing provocative Israeli acts against Lebanon.

I should be grateful if you would have this letter circulated as a document of the Security Council.

(Signed) Selim Tadmoury
