  Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement.

    The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 5337th meeting, held on 20 December 2005 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.

  In accordance with the understanding reached in the Council’s prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure to Ibrahim Gambari, Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs.

    The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 5339th meeting, held on 21 December 2005 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations, having before it the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (S/2005/767).

  The President drew attention to a draft resolution (S/2005/801) that had been prepared in the course of the Council’s prior consultations.

  The Security Council proceeded to vote on draft resolution S/2005/801, and adopted it unanimously as resolution 1648 (2005) (for the text, see S/RES/1648 (2005); to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 1 August 2005-31 July 2006 ).

  The President stated that, following consultations of the Council, he had been authorized to make a statement on behalf of the Council and read out the text of that statement (for the text, see S/PRST/2005/65; to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 1 August 2005-31 July 2006 ).
