Letter dated 25 August 2005 from the Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General
I am writing to draw your urgent attention to terrorist attacks carried out in Israel today.
Earlier today, terrorists fired a rocket from Lebanon hitting the Israeli village of Margaliot. This attack is one of many violations of the “blue line” and represents a serious risk to the stability of the region.
Israel has repeatedly called upon the Government of Lebanon to establish control of its entire territory and to take all necessary efforts to prevent terrorists and terrorist organizations from operating within their sovereign territory. The continued violation of the “blue line” and the general freedom given to terrorist organizations to operate within Lebanon is intolerable and must be addressed immediately.
Israel further calls upon the international community to urge the Government of Lebanon to act against terrorism.
I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the text of the present letter circulated as a document of the fifty-ninth session of the General Assembly, under agenda items 36 and 148, and of the Security Council.
(Signed) Ambassador Dan Gillerman
Permanent Representative
