Mideast situation – Incident in the Suez Canal – Letter from Israel

DOCUMENT S/3333

Letter dated 20 December 1954 from the representative of Israel

to the President of the Security Council

[Original text: English]

[20 December 1954]

I have the honor to refer once more to my Government's complaint against Egypt concerning the enforcement by that country of restrictions on the passage of ships trading with Israel through the Suez Canal.

In view of the fact that the Bat Galim, together with its crew and cargo, has not yet been released from unlawful detention by Egypt to proceed on its journey to Haifa through the Suez Canal, I have the honor, on instructions from my Government, to request that a meeting of the Security Council be called at an early date in order that the matter may be considered further.

(Signed) Abba EBAN

Ambassador and Permanent Representative

of Israel to the United Nations
