Air violations of the Blue Line continue
PRSG reiterates call for cessation of overflights
Beirut, 2 November 2001 (UN Information Centre) 16:00 hrs – It is regrettable that air violations of the Blue Line and of Lebanese air space continue to take place by Israeli military aircraft. These violations continue to occur despite frequent requests by the United Nations for their cessation.
On 1 November two air violations, consisting of two Israeli jets, and on 2 November a further six violations, consisting of nine Israeli jets, took place across the Blue Line and into Lebanese airspace.
Some booms were heard in Beirut and southern Lebanon on 2 November.
The Personal Representative of the Secretary-General for southern Lebanon (PRSG), Mr. Staffan de Mistura, expresses his concern that such actions are unhelpful in avoiding the deterioration of an already tense situation.
In this connection, the PRSG, again, calls upon the Israeli authorities to cease all air violations and to fully respect the Blue Line.
