SECRETARY-GENERAL STRONGLY SUPPORTS TWO-STATE SOLUTION FOR MIDDLE EAST
The Spokesperson corrected reports in some Arab media earlier this week, attributing positions to the UN Secretariat, following the Secretariat’s 18 October briefing to the Security Council on the Middle East, that are not accurate.
He said the Secretary-General continues to strongly support a negotiated two-State solution as called for in Security Council resolutions, which remains the stated preferred goal of the parties. Neither the Secretary-General nor the Secretariat has expressed any position regarding the future engagement of the Security Council, which is, of course, the prerogative of the Security Council itself.
