Three Palestinian children killed in Syria – UNRWA press release

Three Palestinian children killed in Syria

During the evening of 31 August, the Damascus suburb of Yarmouk, home to approximately one million Syrians and over 150,000 Palestine refugees, experienced several explosions which appeared to be caused by heavy weapons.

Three Palestine refugee children lost their lives as a result of these attacks; two of them have been reported to be aged 11, 12. UNRWA was not able to verify the age of the third child. Other Palestine refugees and Syrians suffered serious injuries and several homes sustained damage.

UNRWA deplores the tragic deaths of the three refugee children during yesterday's events, noting that these most recent casualties illustrate a rising trend of conflict-related deaths in the Palestine refugee community.

UNRWA is gravely concerned about the destructive impact of the Syrian conflict on Palestine refugees and other civilians across Syria. UNRWA demands that all sides refrain from engaging in conflict in civilian areas, and that they comply with their obligations under international law.
