Letter dated 6 June 2005 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General
On instructions from my Government I transmit to you herewith a statistical table of Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty during the month of May 2005, which amounted to 82 violations (see annex). These violations constitute a breach of the relevant Security Council resolutions, the most recent of which is resolution 1583 (2005), and go against your repeated calls to desist, most recently in your report S/2005/36 of 20 January 2005. Lebanon depends upon the United Nations to compel Israel to desist from these violations, which constitute a threat to international peace and security, and holds Israel responsible for the consequences that could result.
I should be grateful if you would have this letter and its annex circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under agenda item 36, and of the Security Council.
( Signed) Ibrahim Assaf
Chargé d’affaires a.i.
