Situation of human rights in southern Lebanon

Report of the Secretary-General

1. At its fiftieth session the Commission on Human Rights adopted resolution 1994/83, entitled "Situation of human rights in southern Lebanon". In paragraph 6 of the resolution, the Commission requested the Secretary-General (a) to bring the resolution to the attention of the Government of Israel and to invite it to provide information concerning the extent of its implementation thereof, and (b) to report to the General Assembly at its forty-ninth session and to the Commission on Human Rights at its fifty-first session on the results of his efforts in this regard.

2. In accordance with this request, the Secretary-General addressed on 24 March 1994 a note verbale to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Israel requesting information concerning the extent of the implementation of the resolution.

3. No reply had been received at the time of the preparation of the present report.
