Peacebuilding Impact Hub supports launch of new evidence-based Tool for Peacebuilding Policy and Action

On 27 March 2025, the Peacebuilding Impact Hub co-hosted a workshop with the NYU Center on International Cooperation (CIC) to launch a new Evidence-Based Tool for Smarter Policy & Action

The new tool—developed by CIC with support from the UK government—offers a systematic, data-driven approach to identifying the underlying causes of intra-state conflict and violent extremism. Designed to be used by policymakers, practitioners, donors, and international actors, the tool provides a diagnostic framework that draws on a comprehensive review of global research to help users assess both risk and protective factors within specific contexts.

PBSO welcomed the initiative, highlighting its relevance for current peacebuilding priorities. “This tool arrives at a critical moment, as we work together to implement the Secretary-General’s New Agenda for Peace and deliver on the commitments outlined in the Pact for the Future,” said Emmanuelle Bernard, the Peacebuilding Impact Hub Team Leader, in opening remarks. She recalled that addressing the root causes of violence requires not only political will, but also sound analysis, data and evidence to adapt efforts to the realities on the ground and improve their impact.

The workshop provided an opportunity to explore practical applications of the tool, including how it can support national prevention strategies, inform policy discussions within the Peacebuilding Commission, and guide funding and programming decisions by international partners.

In the coming months, the Peacebuilding Impact Hub will continue working with partners to promote the use of the tool across relevant settings.
