What we do

The United Nations Secretary-General has called for an ambitious reform of the Secretariat to transform it into a nimbler organization that is less focused on procedure and better serves the people of the world. Fundamental to this change is a culture of transparency and accountability. 

On 1 January 2019, the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMPSC) launched with three interlinked pillars:

  • Programme Planning, Finance and Budget will provide strategic policy leadership in all areas of management through a clear, integrated global management strategy and policy framework
  • Human Resources will champion, drive and support a results-oriented and risk-aware culture of continuous learning and accountability
  • Business Transformation and Accountability will establish a culture in which innovation of business models can thrive throughout the United Nations Secretariat, with a strong focus on activities in the field

The Office of the Under-Secretary-General provides overall leadership and administration of the department as well as playing a key role in shaping organizational culture.

Umoja is a single, global solution that is enabling efficient and transparent management of the United Nation’s financial, human and physical resources and improving programmatic delivery. The Office of Information and Communications Technology provides enterprise-wide oversight of ICT programmes, budgets and decision-making to ensure alignment with the Secretariat's overall ICT strategy. It has a dual reporting line to the Department of Management, Strategy, Policy and Compliance and the Department of Operational Support. Visit the Office website to learn more.
