SDG of the month
Goal of the Month | May 2025: Life on Land
Forests cover nearly 31 per cent of the world and are home to more than 80 per cent of all terrestrial species of animals, plants and insects. Unfortunately, the world is facing a triple crisis of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss. Between 2015 and 2019, at least 100 million hectares of healthy and productive land were degraded every year, impacting the lives of 1.3 billion people. Achieving Goal 15 requires urgent restoration of degraded land, halting deforestation, and conserving biodiversity across ecosystems.
The Pact for the Future highlights the urgent need to reverse biodiversity loss and restore ecosystems as a cornerstone of sustainable development. It emphasizes the importance of strengthening multilateral efforts to protect natural habitats and ensure the fair use of natural resources.
