07 October 2025
Today marks two years since Hamas carried out its horrific attacks on Israeli towns and communities on 7 October 2023 which resulted in the brutal killing of more than 1,200 people, including many women and children. We mourn all those who lost their lives in this tragedy and stand in solidarity with those who continue to grieve.
The anguish of that day remains seared into the hearts and minds of the survivors’, victims’ families, the people of Israel, and all those around the world who value human life.
We also remember that there are still far too many who remain in captivity under inhumane conditions. Their plight remains a stark reminder that the imperative for their immediate and unconditional release cannot fade with time.
The war has inflicted immense suffering on both Palestinians and Israelis. Civilians continue to bear the brunt of this war and their protection must remain at the center of all our efforts.
On this painful day, I take note with encouragement of the recent proposal by US President Donald J. Trump. It represents a critical chance to move beyond the suffering and pursue dialogue, peace and security for all. I urge all parties to seize the opportunity to bring the tragic conflict in Gaza to an end. Such steps are not easy, but they are essential if we are to honor the memory of the victims with more than words.
Let us channel our mourning into determination: determination to end the violence, to support those most affected, to uphold international law, and to work tirelessly for a just and sustainable peace.
