SECRETARY-GENERAL DEPLORES FURTHER VIOLATION OF LEBANESE SOVEREIGNTY BY ISRAEL
The following statement was issued today by a spokeswoman for Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar:
The Secretary-General has received this morning a letter from the Permanent Representative of Lebanon about the current incursion by Israeli forces into southern Lebanon. He deplores this further violation of Lebanese sovereignty. The Secretary-General has frequently voiced his opposition to acts that increase tension and violence in the area. He remains convinced that peace and security along the Lebanese-Israeli border, including an end to cross-border attacks in both directions, can only be attained through the full implementation of Security Council resolution 425 (1978), which calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all Lebanese territory.
