7 October 2010
Damascus
UNRWA Commissioner-General, Mr Filippo Grandi, concludes his two-day visit to Syria today.
Since arriving in Aleppo, Mr Grandi has spent time talking with staff in UNRWA’s Aleppo Area Office, meeting young UNRWA beneficiaries at the Aleppo Youth Centre, and discussing the implementation of the Neirab Rehabilitation Project with local community and government stakeholders, including Dr Ali Mansoura, Governor of Aleppo. Mr Grandi used the meeting with Dr Mansoura as an opportunity to express his sincere appreciation for the support the governorate has provided to UNRWA and to discuss opportunities for future cooperation.
The Commissioner-General was honored to be hosted at a special welcome function by Mr 'Ali Mustafa, Director-General the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees (GAPAR). The function gave both UNRWA and GAPAR the opportunity to exchange dialogue on a range of issues confronting the Agency in Aleppo, Syria and the region more generally.
UNRWA provides education, health care, social services, shelter and micro-credit services to over 470,000 Palestine refugees in Syria.
