Tensions remained high across the Occupied Palestinian Territory and in Israel, he noted, deploring violence against civilians on both sides.  The excessive use of force and the administrative detention of Palestinians without trial by the Israeli authorities were causes for concern.

 Saudi Arabia wished it had been possible to see the statement of the High Commissioner in advance.  Saudi Arabia stressed the place of Islam in the promotion of human rights in the country.  Appeals were reiterated to the international community to put an end to what was called the longest violation of human rights in history, the violations of human rights of the Palestinian people, which were the result of racist practices by Israel.

Algeria said that all human rights should be treated equally.  Countering terrorism meant ongoing mobilization and coordinated efforts to deal with the deep-rooted causes, in particular to root out its funding which came from paying ransom to terrorist groups when they took hostages.  Attention was also drawn to violations of human rights in Palestine and Western Sahara.
