Emergency situation in Gaza – WHO update (21 Nov) – Press release


The latest casualty figures according to the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip (as of November 20, 11:00 pm): 

  • 132 persons killed (97 males; 19 females; 16 not identified) of whom 30 (23%) are children; 17 children are less than 5 years old.

  • 1090 persons injured (695 males; 307 females; 88 not identified) of whom 381 (35%) are children; 119 children less than 5 years old. 

Hospitals operated by the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip are functioning but are reporting difficulties due to severely depleted medical supplies. 46 patients were transferred via Erez checkpoint since Nov. 17 (including two sets of twins) and 34 patients via Rafah to Egypt.

A 40-bed Jordanian field hospital which has operated in Gaza city since 2009 suffered a direct hit from a missile late Monday, damaging two floors of the hospital in the center of the hospital, including the in-patient department nursing station.  Patients had been evacuated 10 minutes.
