EU High Representative for the CFSP,

congratulates Ehud Olmert on the election result in Israel

Javier SOLANA, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), made the following comments on the outcome of yesterday's elections to the Knesset in Israel:

"I have just spoken to acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and congratulated him on the result of the general election in Israel yesterday.

I encouraged Mr Olmert to pursue all efforts to move towards a peaceful, negotiated resolution of the Middle-East conflict. I assured him that the European Union stands ready, as always, to offer all its support in this process."
