EU contribution for Palestinian salaries and pensions – EU press release/Non-UN document

European Union contributes €15 million through PEGASE to pay salaries and pensions of 78,153 Palestinian beneficiaries
 

78,153 Palestinian public service providers and pensioners will today receive a total contribution of €15 million (NIS 71,275,536) towards the payment of their monthly salaries and pensions, through PEGASE, the European mechanism for support to the Palestinians 

" Through PEGASE, the European Union and its Member States have worked closely with Prime Minister Fayyad to help him ensure that PA civil servants have been paid in full, and on time every month for the longest uninterrupted period in the PA's history, " said Mr. Roy Dickinson, the European Commission Head of Operations in Jerusalem. "I am proud that the EU has been able to contribute to the Prime Minister's remarkable achievement. I am also proud that, in supporting the PA to pay its employees in Gaza despite all of the difficulties, the EU has been able to live up to its promise that it would never let the people of Gaza down"

The EU's PEGASE contribution will be added to this month’s payment of salaries and pensions by the Palestinian Ministry of Finance, thus helping to ensure the continued delivery of essential public services to the Palestinian population, not only in the West Bank but also in the Gaza Strip.

PEGASE channels EU assistance to help build a Palestinian State, in accordance with the priorities and needs identified by the Palestinian Authority. Launched by the European Commission on 1 February 2008, it is the main financing mechanism of the European Union, the largest donor to the Palestinians, and is open to contributions from other donors.
