THE CRISIS IN YARMOUK CAMP
15 JUNE 2014
Our spokesperson Chris Gunness has the following to say on the situation in Yarmouk Camp
Dire humanitarian crisis facing civilians in Yarmouk, Damascus
"No UNRWA distribution of humanitarian assistance was carried out in Yarmouk on 15 June. The UNRWA team did not proceed to Yarmouk as the usual arrangements for UNRWA distribution had not been reinstated.
"UNRWA is concerned that this latest break in its Yarmouk distribution has extended to an eighth day. The Agency is pressing all concerned parties to restore daily distribution of humanitarian assistance to help address what remains a dire humanitarian crisis facing civilians in Yarmouk. UNRWA is concerned by the plight of the estimated 18,000 civilians trapped in Yarmouk and will continue to advocate for continuous, substantial and safe humanitarian distributions to civilians there."
