Representative of Japan Participates in the Olive Harvest in Tubas and
Celebrates the Opening of Japan-Funded "School Expansion" Project in Aqqaba village

On Monday, October 27, Ambassador for Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to the PA, Junya Matsuura and the Governor of Tubas, Mr. Rabeeh Al Khandaqgee joined farmers in Aqqaba Village in Tubas to participate in this year's olive harvest as part of the opening ceremony of the Japan-funded "School Expansion" project, a grassroots project implemented by Aqqaba Municipality that promotes children's right to learn and play in an appropriate learning environment.

This project was funded by the Government of Japan on February 2014 through the Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) with the amount of $ 118,418. The municipality constructed two new floors consisting of three classrooms each above the existing Aqqaba girls' school building, to accommodate around 200 students in the 1st and 2nd grades who were studying inside a village mosque.

Mr. Matsuura in his speech emphasized Japan's firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance exceeding $1.47 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through MoPAD since 2010.
