U.S. Distributes Insulin to West Bank Hospitals and Clinics

West Bank – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is funding insuling deliveries to 37 Palestinian health care facilities in response to an insulin shortage in the West Bank. The distribution of $160,000 worth of insulin, an estimated two-month supply, began through Care International on April 21. The first shipment consists of 4,700 vials of insulin used in the treatment of diabetes and is part of a total distribution of 26,543 vials. Subsequent shipments will take place in May.

The on-going insulin delivery is part of USAID's Emergency Medical Assistance Program, which responds to urgent humanitarian needs in the West Bank and Gaza. This $30 million health assistance package enables quick procurement and distribution of pharmaceuticals, dialysis supplies, medical equipment, and spare parts to Palestinian health care facilities.

Since 1993, Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza have received more than $1.7 billion in U.S. economic assistance via USAID projects to combat poverty, improve health and education, create jobs and promote good governance.
