Assistance to the Palestinian people – Emergency report on OPT – WFP report (excerpts)

WFP Emergency Report No. 40 of 2002

/…

G) Middle East Region: (1) Palestinian Territories

1) Palestinian Territories

(a) A curfew has been imposed on Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarm, Qalqilieh, Salfit, Tubas, and Ramallah (Northern West Bank) during the second half of September thus delaying food distributions in several Governorates. Movement of commodities between the cities and the villages of the Northern West Bank remains very difficult. As a result, the high price of commodities poses a serious problem for the population.

(b) From 15 to 30 September, WFP assisted over 67,300 vulnerable people in Gaza and West Bank, providing them with 1,140 tons of food in collaboration with PARC, CRS and MSA. WFP has been monitoring food distribution implemented by CRS and PARC in Gaza. Interviews of beneficiaries and home visits were conducted by WFP monitor on a regular basis except in the southern areas due to the frequent closure of Abu Holi checkpoint during the last two weeks.

Note: All tonnage figures in this report refer to metric tons.
