TIM provides support to village flooded by waste water – European Commission press release/Non-UN document

Temporary International Mechanism fuels heavy machinery to provide first support to village flooded by waste water

The European Commission, through the Temporary International Mechanism (TIM), provides urgent relief to the North Gazan village of Um An Nasir. On 27 March, the village and its 3,000 inhabitants were flooded with waste water after a dam of the nearby treatment plant broke.

Since Wednesday, the TIM provides fuel for 29 public bulldozers and trucks that work around the clock to reestablish the embankment of the waste water lake and the access routes to the village. The TIM further provides fuel to the Al Gous pumping station to urgently lower the waste water level in the lake by at least one meter.

The TIM response to the crisis is additional to the fuel TIM delivers to the Gaza Power Generating Plant, which enables electricity production in Gaza. Since November 2006, over 35 million litres have been delivered to the plant.
