Minister D´Alema condemns suicide bombing at Eilat

29 January 2007 – Deputy Premier and Minister for Foreign Affairs Massimo D'Alema has expressed his firm condemnation of the suicide bombing today at Eilat that claimed three innocent lives.

“This barbarous terrorist act”, Minister D'Alema asserted, “cannot be justified in any way, and arises from a desire to distance peace prospects by endangering the present ceasefire, which is indispensable to the pursuance of efforts at fostering dialogue between the Israelis and the Palestinians”.

“In the wake of this latest criminal act, I hope,” Minister D'Alema continued, “that all the parties concerned, in order to isolate such extreme manifestations, will adopt and pursue a policy of dialogue and moderation, which is the only means by which to open up concrete prospects for peace”.

“Italy will continue to do its part”, D'Alema concluded, “within the context of the European Union and the international community to promote an accord between the Israelis and Palestinians that establishes a peaceful and secure arrangement for each within a broader framework of regional stability and cooperation”.
