Didier Reynders very concerned after death of Minister Abu Ein

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders expresses his condolences to the family of Minister Ziad Abu Ein, to the Palestinian Authority and to the Palestinian people following Minister Abu Ein's death today in the Palestinian village of Turmus Ayya.
The circumstances in which this dramatic event occurred are troubling. It is of utmost importance that those circumstances are clarified and that an independent and strictly impartial investigation be led with diligence to determine the exact causes of the death of Minister Abu Ein.
Didier Reynders expressed his grave concern at the continued deterioration of the situation in the Palestinian territories. He calls on everyone to make efforts to lower the tension and stresses the need to avoid any action likely to further exacerbate the situation.
This event tragically highlights the seriousness of the current situation and the urgency to do everything possible to break this cycle of violence, resume dialogue and resume the peace negotiations to finally lead to the emergence of two independent, sovereign and viable states living side by side in peace and security
