Human rights situation in southern Lebanon and western Bekaa
Report of the Secretary-General
1. At its fifty-fourth session, the Commission on Human Rights adopted resolution 1998/62, entitled "Human rights situation in southern Lebanon and western Bekaa". In paragraph 6 of the resolution, the Commission requested the Secretary-General (a) to bring the resolution to the attention of the Government of Israel and to invite it to provide information concerning the extent of its implementation thereof and (b) to report to the General Assembly at its fifty-third session and to the Commission on Human Rights at its fifty-fourth session on the results of his efforts in this regard.
2. In accordance with this request, the Secretary-General, on 15 May 1998, addressed a note verbale to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Israel requesting information concerning the extent of the implementation of the resolution.
3. No reply had been received at the time of preparation of the present report.
