Annex

Letter dated 19 March 1980 from the Deputy Permanent Observer of

the Palestine Liberation Organization to the United Nations

addressed to the President of the Security Council

Upon the instructions of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, I have the honour to bring to your attention recent Israeli actions in occupied Palestinian territory.

Israeli authorities have seized and fenced off 375 acres of land in the village of Al-Khadar in the vicinity of Bethlehem.  This amount, when added to the 625 acres previously confiscated, comprises a total of 1,000 acres of Palestinian land which the Zionist authorities have taken from Al-Khadar and to which they intend to transfer parts of their population to form yet another illegal settlement, construction on which is already under way.

Israel’s latest “land grab” provides further evidence, if more were needed, of zionism’s racist and exclusivist character.  The Israeli actions also reveal, for all the world to see, the utter contempt with which they regard the will of the international community, as expressed in the Fourth Geneva Convention and the Charter and innumerable resolutions of the United Nations, including resolution 465 (1980), unanimously adopted by the Security Council.

I am requested to urge you to take immediate action to ensure Israel’s compliance with the relevant resolutions, especially Security Council resolution 465(1980).

(Signed) Hasan RAHMAN

Deputy Permanent Observer

Chargé d’Affaires a.i.
