Supplemental information

The Chief of Staff of UNTSO, Major-General Ensio Siilasvuo, has submitted the following report on incidents observed by United Nations military observers and complaints received from the parties on 31 October 1972:

Israel-Syria sector

OP 1/ reports:
(a) OP,Six: Between 0748 2/ and 0753 sporadic small-arms fire by Israel forces.
(b) OP Romeo:  Between 0840 and 0915  sporadic machine-gun fire by Israel forces.
(c) OP Two:  Between 0905 and 0915 and between 0920 and 0927 sporadic machine-gun fire by Israel forces.
(d) OP Yoke: At 1020 machine-gun fire, which ceased immediately, and between 1049 and 1112 sporadic machine-gun fire by Israel forces. At ll40 machine-gun fire by Syrian forces, and immediately after, machine-gun fire by Israel forces (exchange of fire). Fire ceased at 1144 by both sides. At 1249 machine-gun fire, which ceased immediately, by Israel forces.
(e) OP One:  Between 1032 and 1059 sporadic machine-gun fire, between 1202 and 1203 and between 1204 and 1205 machine-gun fire, all by Israel forces.
(f) OP Four:  Between 12l4 and 1242 sporadic machine-gun fire and between 1444 and 1445 machine-gun fire by Israel forces.
(g) OP Uniform:  Between 1311 and 1315 sporadic machine-gun fire and between 1329 and 1330 machine-gxm fire (confirmed by OP Victor) by Israel forces.
(h) OP Three:  Between l4OO and l435 sporadic machine-gun fire and two rounds of cannon fire, between 1414  and 1419 sporadic machine-gun fire and between lititS and lititit machine-gun fire, all by Israel forces.
2.  Complaints by the parties:
Complaints have been received from Israel alleging that:
(a) On 27 October three Syrian forces soldiers crossed the SFDLs (the limits of the Syrian forward defended localities indicating the cease-fire line on the Syrian side) into the ABFDLs (the area between the limits of forward defended localities indicating the cease-fire lines) west of OP Zodiac.
(b) On 30 October between 1315 and 1355 Syrian forces artillery fire was directed across the ABFDLs at Israel settlements between Kuneitra and Rafid.
Only complaint (b) was confirmed by United Nations observation (see S/7930/Add.1784).
Israel-Lebanon sector
1. OP reports on ground activity:
OP Ras:  Between 0430 and 1507 Israel forces personnel, armoured personnel carrier and trailer reoccupied position at approximate MR 1907-2749 north of border pillar 19.
2. OP reports on air activity:
(a) OP Naq:  Between 0638 and 064O two Israel forces jet aircraft flying south-south-west to north-north-east, circling north-east of OP, then flying north to south, crossed the ADL (armistice demarcation line) south-west of OP and recrossed the ADL south-south-east of OP.
(b) OP Khiam:  Between 0644 and 0645 two Israel forces jet aircraft flying south to north, circling over OP, first observed east-south-east of OP recrossed the ADL south-south-west of OP.
