QUESTION OF THE VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE OCCUPIED
ARAB TERRITORIES, INCLUDING PALESTINE
Note verbale dated 29 March 1996 from the Permanent Delegation of
the League of Arab States to the United Nations Office at Geneva,
addressed to the United Nations Centre for Human Rights
The Delegation of the League of Arab States to the United Nations Office at Geneva presents its compliments to the United Nations Centre for Human Rights and has the honour to call its attention to three decisions taken by the Council of Arab Ministers of Foreign Affairs at its one hundred and fifth session, held in Cairo during the period 13-16 March 1996, in which it:
1. "Condemns Israeli practices, particularly the closure of Palestinian cities, the continued arrests of Palestinian citizens, the expropriation of Palestinian lands, and the continued settlement activities;"
2. "Affirms the Arab status of the city of Jerusalem, and condemns Israeli activities relating to it which are exemplified by the reinforcement of settlements and land expropriation, the imposition of blockades, and prohibiting Muslims from praying in Al-Aqsa mosque:"
3. "Condemns Israeli expropriation of Palestinian lands to build circumventing roads and establish liaison offices for Israeli forces, and all other justifications aimed at permitting further Israeli expropriation of Palestinian lands and their annexation."
The Delegation of the League of Arab States kindly requests that this note verbale be transmitted to H.E. Mr. Gilberto Vergne Saboia, Chairman of the fifty-second session of the United Nations Commission for Human Rights, and be considered an official document of the Commission.
