Jerusalem/Settlements – Letter from Qatar

          LETTER DATED 19 MARCH 1997 FROM THE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE

          OF QATAR TO THE UNITED NATIONS ADDRESSED TO THE PRESIDENT OF

THE SECURITY COUNCIL

In my capacity as Chairman of the Arab Group for the month of March 1997 and on behalf of the members of the League of Arab States, I have the honour to request that an immediate meeting of the Security Council be convened to consider the commencement by Israel, the occupying Power, of the construction of a new settlement in the Jabal Abu Ghneim area to the south of occupied East Jerusalem as well as Israeli settlement activities in general in the rest of the occupied territories.

I should be grateful if you would have this letter circulated as a document of the Security Council.
