Human rights situation in southern Lebanon and west Bekaa

Report of the Secretary-General

1. At its fifty-fifth session, the Commission on Human Rights adopted resolution 1999/12, entitled “Human rights situation in southern Lebanon and west Bekaa”.  In paragraph 6 of that resolution, the Commission requested the Secretary-General (a) to bring the resolution to the attention of the Government of Israel and to invite it to provide information concerning the extent of its implementation thereof; and (b) to report to the General Assembly at its fifty-fourth session and to the Commission on Human Rights at its fifty-sixth session on the results of his efforts in that regard.

2. In accordance with this request, the Secretary-General, on 28 June 1999, addressed a note verbale to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Israel requesting information concerning the extent of the implementation of the resolution.

3. No reply had been received at the time of the preparation of the present report.
