Letter dated 18 May 2001 from the President of the Security Council

addressed to the Secretary-General

I have the honour to inform you that members of the Security Council have considered your interim report of 30 April 2001 (S/2001/423) on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). They commend the contribution of UNIFIL to international peace and stability and endorse in general the technical reconfiguration approach for UNIFIL as elaborated in that report. The Security Council will remain seized of the matter, and review regularly the state of reconfiguration in view of developments on the ground and in consultation with the Government of Lebanon.

(Signed) James B. Cunningham

President of the Security Council
