SECRETARY-GENERAL MEETS KING HUSSEIN OF JORDAN AT HEADQUARTERS
The following statement was issued today by a spokesman for the Secretary-General:
Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali received King Hussein Ibn Talel of Jordan, who paid a visit to Headquarters at 12:45 p.m. today.
The King of Jordan and the Secretary-General reviewed the latest developments in the Middle East, in particular the peace process and United Nations assistance to the Palestinians. The King expressed his appreciation and support for the various activities undertaken by the United Nations to back the implementation of the peace process, especially in the Palestinian territory.
The Secretary-General thanked King Hussein for Jordan's contribution to United Nations peace-keeping operations, as well as for the various Jordanian manifestations to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations.
In this regard, the Secretary-General reiterated his invitation to King Hussein to attend the special commemorative meeting of the General Assembly to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations in October.
