Janina Hasse-Mohsine is the Team Leader for Political Affairs, Peace and Security in the Office of the 77th President of the General Assembly.

A German career diplomat, Janina has a wide range of experience in multilateral and intergovernmental affairs, peace and security issues, conflict prevention, mediation, and human rights.

Janina served on Germany’s Security Council team in 2019-2020 and was subsequently seconded to the Security Council team of the Permanent Mission of Albania to the UN in 2021. At the Security Council, she acted as focal point for Women, Peace and Security, and covered multiple regional files and thematic issues. On a previous posting to the Permanent Mission of Germany to the UN, she led on human rights issues and covered the Third Committee, the Commission on the Status of Women, and the Commission on Social Development, and also worked on counterterrorism and sanctions issues. She previously served in the UN Department of the German Federal Foreign Office working on human rights issues both in the General Assembly and the Human Rights Council. She additionally worked on Germany’s membership of the Security Council in 2011-2012. When posted to Germany’s embassy in Addis Ababa, Janina coordinated Germany’s engagement with the African Union especially on peace and security issues, and acted as liaison with local UN entities.

Janina holds a Master of Arts in International Information Management, Political Science and Business Administration, and studied in several universities in Germany, Spain, and Italy. She speaks German, English, French as well as some Spanish and Italian.
