United Nations General Assembly Platform of Women Leaders

Tuesday, 20 September 2022, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm, Trusteeship Council Chamber, UN Headquarters New York

Background

The UNGA Platform of Women Leaders is a special initiative of PGA and UN-Women that invites all current women Heads of State and Government to discuss priority issues on the international community’s agenda and identify solutions to today’s complex and interlinked challenges.

Female Heads of State and Government will be invited to share experiences executing decisive and inclusive leadership and policies, with recommendations for building solutions to interrelated and complex crises that respond to society’s needs.

As the world faces complex and interlinking challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic, humanitarian crises of unprecedented nature, a tipping point in climate change, as well as growing concerns about threats to our global economy, it is more crucial than ever to ensure women and men are equally represented in policy and decision-making.

The event is hosted by the Office of the President of the General Assembly for the 77th sessions and UN Women.

Theme

The theme of this year’s meeting is: “Transformative Solutions by Women Leaders to Today’s Interlinked Crises.” All invited leaders will be able to share their experiences and given the opportunity to contribute interactively at a moderated roundtable discussion. A meeting summary will be shared with all Member States.
