Graduation Remarks – Written Statement by Aimé Triana Sevajanes

27 July 2023

Today, the Fellowship Program of the President of the General Assembly, which I began in January 2023 on behalf of my country, Cuba, comes to an end.

On that date, I was far from imagining that it would be one of the most important experiences in my professional life.

The truth is that as a Cuban I have not been a stranger to the work of the United Nations. My country has been an active actor in various forums of the United Nations system, in defense of the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations.

However, the Fellowship Program has given me an unprecedented opportunity to experience from the inside the work of the OPGA and the challenges faced by the United Nations in ensuring the three pillars of peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights.

To be honest, this program has not only allowed me to grow professionally but has also allowed me to make new friends and get to know the most diverse cultures.

After almost 8 months working in the PGA Office, I take with me the teamwork, new communication skills and planning skills. I also take with me the memory of everyone I met there, from the security guards at the doors of the building to my office mates and superiors.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to be with you in person at the end of the program, but this does not prevent me from sending my thanks to the entire team of the Office for these 8 months. Be convinced that wherever I go, there will be a part of the Office in whatever I do.
