GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Starting with the General Assembly.
In the 3pm session will be the first plenary of the 77th session.
The plenary will start with an opening by the President of the General Assembly, Csaba Kőrösi.
That will be followed by a minute of silent prayer or meditation.
Today’s afternoon session will include the appointment of members of the Credentials Committee.
In his opening remarks this afternoon, President Kőrösi will discuss his presidency, using the motto “Solutions through solidarity, sustainability and science”.
He will say that the mission of the international community is to come together when there are disagreements and to build bridges when there are deep divides.
And that the General Assembly Hall is a place to build trust – to bring about peace and security, development and human rights.
PRAYER BREAKFAST
This morning, President Kőrösi spoke to the 37th International Prayer Breakfast.
As you know, this is part of an annual tradition at the start of a General Assembly session.
President Kőrösi said the event offers a moment to reflect on where are as a global society.
Outlining some of the key global challenges, he said they should be met with a “united resolve”
Around the values that are shared to people of faith, as well as those in the secular culture.
QUEEN MEMORIAL
Turning to this Thursday, 15 September.
There will be a plenary meeting to pay tribute to the memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
It will be held in the GA Hall on Thursday at 10AM.
QUESTIONS
The Spokesperson was asked about any changes to the UNGA schedule. The Spokesperson said that there are currently no changes to the schedule of events.
