Madiusca Batista Diaz is the Deputy Team Leader for Peace and Security in the Office of the 77th President of the General Assembly.
Ms Batista is a career diplomat with 15 years of experience in international affairs, multilateral issues and preventive diplomacy. Prior to joining the OPGA 77, she served Team Leader for Peace and Security for the Office of the 76th President of the General Assembly.
A Dominican Republic diplomat, she serves as a member of the Dominican Republic Security Council team, term 2019-2020. Ms Batista was in charge of Political issues such as Myanmar, Sudan, South Sudan, Central Asia and Afghanistan, and the 1591 and 2206 Sanctions Committees.
Her portfolio at the Permanent Mission to the UN, covered a wide range of activities from General Assembly to the First Committee, Sixth Committee, in addition to serving as Election Officer. In this capacity, she successfully worked in campaigns of her country to the Security Council, PBC, ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies and to the International Criminal Court.
Ms. Batista earned has a Law Degree in the Dominican Republic from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and holds a master’s degree, in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo, as well as a Political Science degree from Fordham University in New York.
She is also a fellow of the United Nations International Law Fellowship at the International Court of Justice. Ms. Batista is fully bilingual in English and Spanish with advanced knowledge of French.
