UNGA PREPARATIONS

The President of the General Assembly, Csaba Kőrösi, has a number of meetings today, as he is working to finalize the UNGA high-level week arrangements.

Because I’ve gotten a number of questions, I do expect a revised provisional UNGA list this week, and I will share it with you once it trickles down to me from our colleagues at the Department of General Assembly and Conference Management.

SHOOT FOR EARTH

Among his bilaterals today, this afternoon, President Kőrösi will meet with the winners of the Shoot4Earth filmmaking competition.

This was a 24-hour contest held in April to raise awareness about environmental thinking.

AGAINST NUCLEAR TESTING

Tomorrow, starting at 10AM ET in the General Assembly Hall, there will be the High-level plenary meeting to commemorate and promote the International Day against Nuclear Tests.

President Kőrösi will have remarks. I will try to share those with you under embargo later today.

Ahead of the plenary meeting, the President will participate in the #StepUp4Disaramament walk on the 3rd floor of the Secretariat – outside of the GA, where the statue of St Agnes is located.

There will be a number of UN officials, including Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs; Dr. Robert Floyd, the Executive Summary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization…And Member States, including Ambassador Akan Rakhmetullin, the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations.

Also participating in the symbolic walk will also be a youth activist, Mr. Elias Mera Taouli.

These are also participants in the General Assembly plenary.

We are all invited to #StepUp4Disarmament by running, walking and sharing information online. More information at https://youth4disarmament.org/news/stepup4disarmament-mark-international-day-against-nuclear-tests

WARREN HOGE

And let me add my voice to those paying respect to Warren Hoge, who I met on my first day at the UN. Walter Pinn introduced us at a stakeout. Mr. Hoge was always generous with his time. We are thinking of his family today.
