Starting with the General Assembly…
Underway is a plenary meeting on the responsibility to protect and the prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.
There is quite a long list of speakers.
You can expect the debate to end at 1pm, and then resume after the afternoon session.
CAMBODIA
Speaking of the afternoon session…
At 3PM, there will be a plenary on the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia.
There will be a debate and action on a draft resolution.
As I mentioned on Friday, the draft resolution is about ongoing implementation.
MENTAL HEALTH
The next item on this afternoon’s agenda is action on a draft resolution entitled ‘Mental health and psychosocial support for sustainable development and peace’.
Urges Member States to promote and improve mental health services as an essential component of universal health coverage.
And one of the points it encourages is for Member States to work towards integrating mental health into primary health care by 2030.
UN CHARTER
On this day in history… the United Nations was formally established.
The UN Charter was signed in San Francisco.
President Kőrösi today underscored that the UN Charter is the “solid group on which we stand”.
Quote “we have to be faithful stewards of its principles and must be vigilant in guarding against its erosion.”
TOWNHALL
And just a reminder that the President Kőrösi will hold a Town Hall meeting with Civil Society tomorrow. The theme is Solutions for a Sustainable Future through Enhanced Global Cooperation.
That will start at 11AM ET in the ECOSOC Chamber. https://www.un.org/pga/77/csotownhall3/
