I don’t have a lot for you today, but I wanted to highlight some of next week’s happenings that might be of interest.

WEEK AHEAD

Tomorrow, Saturday, 24 June is International Day of Women in Diplomacy.

If you haven’t filed your stories and are still looking for materials, consider the special event that was held on Monday, 19 June. President Csaba Kőrösi made remarks, urging the international community to full harness the immense potential of women leaders and diplomats – critical to accelerating progress to the SDGs.

On Monday, 26 June

At 10AM ET… There will be a plenary meeting on the responsibility to protect and the prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

Also at that time, Member States will also hold informal consultations on the political declaration for the high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response

At 3PM ET… There will be a plenary about the UN-backed special tribunal in Cambodia. That’s the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia. There will be a debate and action on a draft resolution. That draft encourages the Secretary-General and the Royal Government of Cambodia to fully implement the Addendum to the Agreement about prosecutions. And requests the Secretary-General to report to the General Assembly at its 79th session about the implementation.

There will then be action on a draft resolution entitled ‘Mental health and psychosocial support for sustainable development and peace’,

Once action is taken, the debate on responsibility to protect from the morning, will continue.

 

On Tuesday, 27 June

At 11AM ET, President Kőrösi will convene a town hall with civil society on “Solutions for a sustainable future through enhanced global cooperation”.  Civil Society Organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC and formally associated with the Department of Global Communications are invited to attend. Member States will hold informal consultations on the political declaration for the high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.

 

Wednesday, 28 June, is a UN holiday for Eid al-Adha.

 

On Thursday, 29 June

At 10AM ET, there will be a plenary to consider reports of the Fifth Committee.

Meanwhile, Member States will hold informal consultations on the political declaration for the high-level meeting on universal health coverage

Then at 3PM on Thursday, action is expected on oral decision on the intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council reform. If approved, this will  mark the end of the IGN for this session, and it will resume in the 78th session.

 

On Friday, 30 June

At 10AM ET, there will be a formal debate on the Annual Report of the Security Council. President Kőrösi will make remarks. He is expected to highlight cooperation between the General Assembly and the Security Council, and will also encourage Member States to bring ideas to the debate.

Ambassador Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates will present the report to the General Assembly, on behalf of the Security Council, in her capacity as the President of the Security Council during the month of June.

Also on Friday, Member States will have informal consultations on the political declaration for the high-level meeting on universal health coverage.
