OFFICIAL TRAVEL
The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Csaba Kőrösi, will make an official visit to Vienna, Austria, starting this Sunday.
He will highlight the importance of rule of law, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, and sustainability issues.
The President’s visit coincides with the 32nd Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ). Which is the UN’s principal policymaking body in the fields of crime prevention and criminal justice. The President of the General Assembly will participate in the opening on the first day, 22 May.
In addition to the Chair of the 32nd session of the CCPCJ and the UN agency executive directors, President Kőrösi will meet the Foreign Minister of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg.
In terms of field visits, the President will visit the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Laboratories in Seibersdorf. His other field visit will be to the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).
The trip is paid for through the OPGA Trust Fund.
The President will be back in New York, Tuesday night, 23 May.

DISASTER RISK REDUCTION
Today is the second day of the High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Today is devoted to multistakeholder panels. We expect the meeting to conclude by 6PM tonight. President Kőrösi will give closing remarks, alongside Special Representative Mami Mizutori.
KUWAIT ORCHESTRA
Tonight, the President will take part in a special concert marking Kuwait’s 60th anniversary of UN membership. You will recall that the President was in Kuwait just a short time ago on an official visit.

On Monday, 22 May:
In Vienna, President Kőrösi will address the opening of the 32nd Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
In New York, there will be the opening of the High-level Policy Dialogue Africa Dialogue Series 2023. The focus will be on “Market and Scale: Unlocking Industrialization through Intra-African Trade”. The President will deliver a pre-recorded message to the event, which begins at 10AM ET in ECOSOC.
In Washington DC, our six PGA Fellows begin their official visit to meet with UN and international officials, and policy thinktanks, to widen their understanding of the multilateral system. Their travel costs are paid for by the OPGA Trust Fund.
On Wednesday, 24 May:
President Kőrösi will convene a Special Event to follow up and reflect on the International Year of Basic Science for Sustainable Development. This will be at 10AM ET in Conference Room 5.
The event, open to Members States, Observers of the General Assembly and ECOSOC accredited NGOs, will present, discuss, and deliberate on the role of basic sciences for sustainable development. The presentations will be followed by an interactive discussion.
In the afternoon, President Kőrösi will meet with students at the UN International School. He will give a short lecture on the UN’s role in a changing world, with a focus on the SDGs.
On Thursday, 25 May:
There will be a deep dive into Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies. This is an informal consultation organized by the co-facilitators working on the Global Digital Compact, one of the 16 negotiating processes in the General Assembly. This one headed by Ambassador Anna Karin Eneström, Permanent Representative of Sweden, and Ambassador Claver Gatete, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Rwanda. The deep dive will be held at 10AM ET in Conference Room 1.
This is in addition to the informal consultations taking place related to the 16 negotiation processes, and other discussions of the General Assembly.
