MORNING DIALOGUE
Turning to the President’s schedule today…
This morning, he held a Morning Dialogue with about a dozen Permanent Representatives on rights and responsibilities for a world crisis. This was the continuation of a three-part discussion, that was started on 27 April.
Today’s focus was on human rights.
SECURITY COUNCIL/GENERAL ASSEMBLY
The President then took part in a workshop on relations between the General Assembly and the Security Council, organized by the Permanent Missions of Ecuador and Portugal, and UNITAR.
The President called the General Assembly and the Security Council complementary.
He said that they may have different mandates, but they share one same fundamental goal – “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war”.
He mentioned several avenues of cooperation between the two UN bodies.
Among these, the consideration by the General Assembly of the Council’s annual report, mandated by the UN Charter.
That is scheduled for 30 June.
And I will try to share the President’s full remarks later today.
