Statement on the situation in Sudan

I strongly condemn the renewed outbreak of violence and fighting in Sudan.
I express my deep regret for the loss of lives and injuries, including many civilians, humanitarian workers and UN staff.
Any further escalations will have devastating effects on the country and the region.
I join the Secretary-General’s call on all Sudanese parties to immediately cease hostilities and initiate dialogue without delay in order to overcome differences and return to the path of democratic transition.
I stand ready to support any efforts to bring this situation to a peaceful conclusion.
