Opening of UN House in Doha, Qatar
4 March 2023
[As Delivered]
Your Highness,
Mr. Secretary-General
Looking at this building, I do understand your dilemma, Mr. Secretary-General.
I think it would be possible physically to check-in from here online, but I warn you, too many people would envy you.
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my great pleasure to address you on this beautiful occasion, as we add a new architectural gem to Qatar’s collection.
The United Nations House stands as a symbol of our collective efforts to work towards a more peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world for all.
It also serves as a testament to Qatar’s commitment to international cooperation, and to the principles that we, as the community of nations, hold dear.
Excellencies,
This country has become an important platform for dialogue, and a regional and international center for many UN bodies and agencies.
I have no doubt that the new United Nations House in Qatar will develop into a hub for UN activities in the region.
Promoting dialogue between nations and joint action by the peoples.
Helping advocates of peaceful negotiations and champions of mutual understanding.
And becoming a new pillar of multilateralism in the Gulf area.
Thank you again to the State of Qatar for its generous support and partnership in making this House a reality.
Translation from Arabic:
Let us continue to work together, with a shared vision of a better future, and let this United Nations House serve as a reminder of our collective commitment to making that vision a reality.
Thank you.
