NOON BRIEFING HIGHLIGHTS
Spokesperson for General Assembly President Csaba Kőrösi
United Nations Headquarters, New York
Friday, 13 January 2023
Stephane will be out shortly. He will be joined by today’s guests, who will brief about the UN Water Conference this March.
BILATERALS
Let me start today with bilaterals…
President Csaba Kőrösi met with Ambassador Krzysztof Szczerski, the Permanent Representative of Poland.
The Ambassador officially shared a letter on reparations concerning World War II.
They also discussed tuberculosis, which is one of the issues on the agenda of the General Assembly’s 77th session.
This afternoon, the President will meet with Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister, Ms. Emine Dzhaparova.
IRENA
Tomorrow, the President will deliver remarks to the International Renewable Energy Agency Assembly.
The President is expected to say that fossil fuels account for 75 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions and 90 per cent of all carbon dioxide emissions.
Climate protection depends on transitioning to carbon-free energy use.
If on track, renewable energies could constitute two-thirds of global power generation by 2030.
The President will then lay out three requirements to make this a reality – investing in scientific tools of measurement, technology transfer and bolstering partnerships with stakeholders.
You have the full remarks in your inboxes, embargoed overnight until 14 January.
